Today’s focus is on mastering linear movement – moving forward and backward. This is a crucial part of boxing that keeps you balanced, in control, and always ready to strike or defend.
Why Linear Movement Matters
Being able to move efficiently in and out of range is key to both offense and defense. Perfecting your forward and backward movements allows you to control the distance between you and your opponent, set up your punches, and avoid incoming strikes.
Forward Movement
When moving forward:
Lead with Your Front Foot: Take a small step with your front foot while your back foot follows.
Stay Balanced: Keep your weight evenly distributed. Don’t lunge or overreach.
Maintain Your Stance: Keep your guard up and your stance intact. Your feet should stay on those imaginary train tracks.
Backward Movement
When moving backward:
Lead with Your Back Foot: Take a small step back with your rear foot while your front foot follows.
Stay Light on Your Feet: Move smoothly and avoid crossing your feet.
Keep Your Guard Up: Always be ready to defend or counter.
Practice Makes Perfect
